With 1,5 million inhabitants, Manaus is the biggest town in the Amazon Rainforest. In the late 19th Century it was one of the richest cities in the world thanks to the rubber- boom. Only a few buildings from that period have survived the last 100 Years. The most famous is the Opera House, but the municipal Market is also from that period.
