THE TAPIR

The tapir is the largest land mammal in Amazonia. She has a smooth, gray coat. Her forepaws have four toes and her hindpaws have three. The tapir eats leaves, grass and fruits such as imbauba, uixì, and piquià. The tapir is a protected animal and gives birth to only one young at a time. She is a good swimmer and her call is a whistle. Tapir meat is tasty. I like tapir because she does no harm to anyone.

THE SPIDER MONKEY COATA'

The coatà is the largest monkey in our jungle. He has a long dark coat and a red face. The coatà eats fruit and some flowers and lives. The coatà lives in "terra firme" forest and the female bears one young every three or four years. I like the coatà because when he looks at me he is just like another person.
