The inhabitants of the forest are called caboclos. They were born long ago from the meeting between the Indios and the Portuguese. Generally, caboclos live in houses made from wood and straw; near the water's edge. Caboclos survive by tending small plantations, fish-ring, hunting and gathering the products of the forest. The caboclo family is very numerous.
